New Year's Day is approaching
Celebrate the holiday, don't forget safety
Emergency Management Department Reminder
1. Pay attention to travel safety. Recently, heavy haze has occurred in central and southern North China, Huanghuai, eastern Jianghuai, Sichuan Basin and other areas. The public should pay attention to the latest forecasts, warnings, and traffic information, and arrange trips reasonably. During the New Year's Day holiday, also pay attention to the impact of cold air, strong winds in northern regions, and low temperature rain and snow in parts of the northeast and southwest. Take personal protection and travel safety precautions.
2. Pay attention to the safety of gatherings and events. During the New Year's Day holiday, celebrations, tourism, entertainment and other activities increase, with concentrated crowds and logistics. Strengthen safety management of major gatherings such as New Year's Eve events to prevent fires and stampedes in crowded places.
3. Pay attention to the safety of production and business activities. At the turn of the year, production and business activities are active. Strengthen hidden danger inspections in industries such as mining, chemical, fireworks, transportation, and construction. Strictly control risks, promptly rectify hazards, and prevent various accidents.
4. Pay attention to gas safety. During the holiday, electricity, gas, and fire use increase. The public should pay attention to gas and coal safety, keep indoor ventilation, and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
5. Pay attention to forest and grassland fire prevention safety. The New Year's Day period coincides with the forest fire prevention period in southern regions. When entering forest areas, consciously abide by fire prevention regulations: no smoking, no open flames, no fireworks, no burning of paper or incense, to strictly prevent forest fires.

Fire Safety Tips
During the New Year's Day period, various celebrations increase, with concentrated crowds and logistics, raising fire risks. Fire safety risks in densely populated places such as mixed commercial-residential buildings and commercial complexes will also increase. Emergency Management reminds everyone to enjoy the holiday but not forget fire safety!
1. Props and materials used to decorate the festive atmosphere should use colored lights and decorations that meet fire safety technical standards to prevent overload fires. Fire extinguishing equipment should be set around festive landscapes.
2. When entering public places, pay attention to the location of safety exits and evacuation routes, and remember the evacuation direction.
3. For large festival celebrations, implement all fire prevention, firefighting measures, and emergency evacuation plans.
4. Purchase qualified fireworks and firecrackers. Follow safety regulations when igniting them. Do not ignite fireworks in crowded places, inside buildings, or near warehouses storing flammable or explosive dangerous goods.
5. Electrical fires increase in winter. In daily life, keep balconies, corridors, and kitchens clean. Use electricity safely, do not connect power sources arbitrarily, avoid overload, replace and repair aging electrical equipment and wiring promptly, and turn off power, gas, and fire sources when going out.
6. Ensure fire protection facilities are complete and functional. Fire automatic alarms, automatic sprinklers, and other fire facilities should be in automatic start mode. Fire passages and safety exits must be kept unobstructed. It is strictly forbidden to bury, occupy, damage, misuse, or cover fire facilities and equipment.
7. Regularly conduct fire prevention inspections and promptly eliminate fire hazards. Fire passages in communities must be kept clear, and evacuation staircases in residential buildings must not be piled with debris.
8. Electric bicycles must not be parked in stairwells, evacuation passages, or safety exits. They must not occupy fire passages or be charged by illegally connecting power lines.
9. In case of fire, call 119 immediately. If a fire occurs in a public gathering place, evacuate according to staff guidance. Do not blindly follow the crowd or push each other to avoid stampede accidents. When escaping through thick smoke, protect your head and body with wet clothes, cover your mouth and nose, and move forward in a low crouch.
Ministry of Transport Reminder
With the New Year's Day short holiday approaching, self-driving tourism, visiting relatives and friends, and other travel activities are concentrated nationwide. Combined with the year-end peak of passenger and freight transport, road traffic safety risks increase.
According to the Ministry of Public Security's assessment, the safety risk of tourist passenger transport during the New Year's Day holiday is prominent. There are many New Year's Eve celebrations, frequent tourism trips such as hot springs, skiing, and farm stays. Many online travel platforms have seen more than a threefold increase in New Year's Day holiday travel orders year-on-year. Illegal and accident-prone behaviors such as overloading in tourist passenger transport, highway passenger transport, and self-driving vehicles, as well as speeding, are frequent.
Traffic safety risks in rural areas are prominent. During the holiday, there are many weddings, funerals, and market activities in rural areas. Some people still travel nearby for work or construction. Risks such as drunk driving, illegal overloading of vans, and illegal passenger carrying by trucks and tricycles are prominent. In the past three years, two major traffic accidents caused by drunk driving during the New Year's Day holiday occurred in rural areas.
Truck-related illegal accident risks are prominent. Currently, energy transportation, production material transportation, and e-commerce logistics demand are strong. Trucks often drive fast and long hours, with prominent issues of overloading, over-limit, and fatigued driving. In the past three years, trucks caused 58.3% of major traffic accidents during the New Year's Day holiday.
Highway heavy traffic risks are prominent. During the New Year's Day holiday, in some key periods and sections, small passenger cars and trucks travel together, making multi-vehicle collisions and secondary accidents more likely. Additionally, according to weather forecasts, some places may still have snow and rain around New Year's Day, and some areas may have heavy fog or dense fog, affecting holiday road traffic and safety.
The Ministry of Public Security reminds that for self-driving trips during the holiday, pay attention to weather forecasts and traffic conditions, and arrange travel time and routes reasonably. All occupants must wear seat belts throughout the drive. Avoid speeding, aggressive overtaking, and distracted driving. Remember: do not drink and drive, and do not drive after drinking. When driving in heavy fog or dense fog, slow down and turn on front and rear fog lights, position lights, and hazard warning lights promptly. On highways, maintain safe speed and distance, do not weave through traffic, and do not occupy emergency lanes. Do not change lanes abruptly, brake suddenly, or reverse at exits. In case of a traffic accident, remember: "pull over, evacuate, and call for help." When driving to scenic mountainous areas, slow down on sharp turns, steep slopes, long downhill sections, and roads near water or cliffs. Pay attention to vehicles and pedestrians when passing through villages and towns.
Ministry of Culture and Tourism Reminder
The 2024 New Year's Day and Spring Festival holidays are approaching. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reminds all tourists:

When driving or riding in motor vehicles, wear seat belts throughout the journey and take necessary safety measures such as anti-skid precautions. Do not go to undeveloped or unsafe areas lacking security guarantees.
2. Arrange travel plans safely and reasonably. Understand in advance the weather, traffic, and the opening status and ticket reservation measures of tourist attractions along the route and at the destination, and plan travel routes and times reasonably. Try to avoid crowds caused by holiday peak periods. Strictly comply with fire safety management regulations at venues, and follow the guidance and instructions of on-site staff in case of emergencies or sudden situations. Pay attention to fire prevention and disaster avoidance during outdoor travel.
3. Participate cautiously in high-risk tourism activities. Be cautious when engaging in high-altitude, high-speed, water, diving, adventure, and other high-risk activities, and act within your personal capacity based on age, health, and other conditions.
