Focus | Theme for World Accreditation Day 2020 Confirmed

June 9 is World Accreditation Day Recently, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) jointly released the 2020 World Accreditation Day theme " Accreditation: Improving Food Safety ”。

In a joint message, IAF Chairman Xiao Jianhua and ILAC Chairman Etty Felet mentioned that the 2020 World Accreditation Day further focuses on the role of accreditation in improving food safety. This role runs through the entire food supply chain from farm to table, helping each link in the chain—food production, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, retail, catering, etc.—to establish layers of assurance. These assurances are reflected in that accreditation bodies independently assess conformity assessment bodies such as inspection bodies, certification bodies, and laboratories according to standards set globally by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and recognize those conformity assessment bodies that meet international standards, confirming their capability to impartially provide inspection, certification, testing, and other services at international, national, and local levels of the food chain.

Along with the World Accreditation Day theme, promotional posters, short videos, brochures, and other materials were also released. World Accreditation Day was jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to promote the widespread development of certification and accreditation activities globally. The themes of World Accreditation Day focus on specific areas where accreditation plays a role; previous themes have involved topics closely related to the public such as international trade, government regulation, health, energy, safety, and supply chains.

This year marks the thirteenth World Accreditation Day Every year on World Accreditation Day, more than 100 IAF and ILAC members worldwide hold commemorative events.
